Through enabling act 1122, passed during the regular session of the 1969 Legislature, the Agriculture Center Board is co-sponsor of this year's National Peanut Festival and Fair and pays a portion of the premiums, prizes, and awards listed in this program.

GENERAL RULES

SPECIAL NOTES: Only pigs entered in the show may be brought into the barn area. ONCE ANIMALS ARE UNLOADED, ALL TRAILERS NEED TO BE MOVED IMMEDIATELY TO THE DESIGNATED AREA. THOSE LEFT UNATTENDED WILL BE TOWED.

1. Any one over age 6 as of the date of the show will be eligible to exhibit.

2. All show animals are required to be owned and exhibited by the exhibitor in whose name the entry is made, except in the case of more than one entry per class. If an exhibitor has more than one entry in a class, another exhibitor must show it. The superintendent must approve exceptions to this rule (in case of emergency) by 5:00 p.m. on the show date.

3. Entries for all classes will close at 3:00 p.m. on Tuesday, November 6. (No Exceptions!)

4. The show is open to either barrows or gilts. (See rules 14 and 15)
5. Exhibitors will have access to the show grounds no earlier than Tuesday, November 5, 8:00 a.m. Any exhibitor upon whom this rule would work a hardship may apply to the superintendent of the show for special consideration.

6. Weight classes will be broken by weight, with approximately 8-10 animals in each class depending on the number of entries.

7. Owners will furnish all feed for hogs. Bedding will be provided.

8. The National Peanut Festival committee and show organizers will not be responsible for losses, injuries or mishaps that may befall animals during the show. All reasonable precautions will be taken to prevent losses or injuries.

9. The Committee will interpret all rules not covered in the general rules.

10. All premiums will be paid directly to the exhibitor from the National Peanut Festival.

11. A Social Security Number will be required.

12. There is no limit to the number of entries per exhibitor.

13. Excessive powdering, oiling or any dressing of hogs other than washing will not be allowed at this show. Exhibitors will be disqualified from showing if they do not follow this rule.

14. All entries will be weighed, tagged and numbered by 3:00 p.m., CST, Tuesday, November 6. One re-weigh will be allowed only on light or heavy entries. All hogs will be taken home. (NO EXCEPTIONS ON WEIGH-IN CUT-OFF TIME.)

15. Weight: 200-270 lbs. All animals will be weighed and divided into equal sized classes by weight with approximately 8-10 animals in each class. A barrow show will be held if numbers are sufficient (at least 2 classes), if numbers are not sufficient, barrows and gilts will show together. The premiums will be the same for the barrow and gilt show. The barrow show will be held immediately following showmanship on Monday night. If borrow show is held, there will be a Supreme Champion selected following the gilt show on Tuesday night. THERE WILL NOT BE ANY PREMIUMS PAID FOR THE SUPREME CHAMPION.

16. NOTE: ANIMALS WILL BE ALLOWED TO SHOW ONLY ONE TIME. IF A BARROW SHOW IS HELD, BARROWS WILL SHOW IN THE BARROW SHOW AND GILTS WILL SHOW IN THE GILT SHOW.

17. Any exhibitor may participate in the showmanship contest, if he/she owns their pig. * Commercial Breeders not allowed to show.


18. Shavings must be removed from exhibitors= assigned pens by the exhibitor before leaving fairgrounds. Premiums will be withheld from exhibitors who do not abide by this rule.

19. A certificate of Veterinary Inspection will be required on each animal of Alabama exhibitors (no more than 30 days prior to the show), identified either by ear notch or state ear tag. Pigs from outside the state of Alabama will require veterinarian documentation (by blood tests given within the previous 30 days) of pseudo-rabies free and brucellosis free hogs.



SHOWMANSHIP CONTEST
Tuesday, November 6 - 6:00 p.m.
Registration will be required at the time of weigh-in.
Deadline for Registration - 5:00 p.m., Tuesday
Youngest classes will show first.

1. The contest will have four age divisions with ages based on the date of the contest.

NOVICE: AGES 0 - 10 INTERMEDIATE: AGES 16 - 21
JUNIOR: AGES 11 - 15 SENIOR: AGES 22 OR OVER

Please list your birth date on the livestock entry form when you enter your market hogs. No entry fee is required for showmanship contest.

2. This contest is open only to show exhibitors. Contestants will show their own animals. The deadline for registering is 5:00 p.m. on Monday.

3. All contestants must supply their own equipment,
including brushes, whips, canes, etc.

4. The advisory committee will interpret all rules and any questions not covered in the general rules. The decision of the advisory committee is final and no further consideration will be taken.

6. Only animals placing in Junior Show will be allowed to enter in the Open Show.

7. Entries are on a first come/first serve basis. State number of pens needed on entry form.

8. Prize money will be mailed the week following the Festival. Please put a complete mailing address on your entry forms.

9. No dogs allowed in the barns.

10. Entry fee is $1.00 per animal per show.

11. Pens must be cleaned before leaving fairgrounds.

Judging - following Junior Show

SPECIAL NOTE: ONCE ANIMALS ARE UNLOADED, ALL TRAILERS NEED TO BE MOVED IMMEDIATELY TO THE DESIGNATED AREA. THOSE LEFT UNATTENDED WILL BE TOWED.

GENERAL RULES AND REGULATIONS
1. Entries are open to all breeders of purebred swine. Any breed will have at least 15 animals to show as a breed. Breeds with less than 15 entries will be grouped and shown as mixed breed.

2. Entries will be taken on a first come first serve basis. State number of pens needed when sending in your entries.


3. All entries must be in place by 12:00 noon, Wed., Nov. 7. All hogs will be required to remain at the show until 4:00 p.m., Thurs., Nov. 8.

4. Prize money will be mailed the week following the Festival. Please be sure to put a complete mailing address on your entry forms.

5. Registration certificate will be required for each animal entered.

6. Each exhibitor will show animals at own risk and must furnish own feed and care.

7. All swine exhibited must be accompanied by an official health certificate indicating that they are free from all contagious and infectious diseases. The certificate must be signed by an accredited veterinarian.

All breeding animals must have tested negative in all dilutions to Brucellosis or originate from a validated herd. This information must be recorded on the official health certificate and in the case of having originated from validated herd, the certificate number and the expiration date must be recorded.

All swine exhibited must have tested negative for Psuedo-rabies within 30 days of the show and must originate from a herd that had no signs of Psuedo-rabies within the previous 12 months or a qualified free herd.

8. Any exhibitor in any way involved in showing a fraudulent entry will automatically forfeit all prize money won by himself or his farm and will be barred from future participation in this show.

9. Each exhibitor can be paid a maximum of only two prizes per class.

10. Breeds with the most entries will be shown first and in descending order.

DIANNE BRANNON SHOWMANSHIP COMPETITION

This competition, in memory of Dianne Brannon of Malvern, Al, is held each year to promote interest in hogs, quality showmanship and for entertainment.

1. Open to all ages, toddlers through adults.

2. Competition will be held during the swine show.

3. No requirements for entry.

4. Only gilts (of any breed) are allowed to be used in this contest.

5. The judge evaluates the performance of the person and his/her efforts in preparing the hog for the show, and not the hog.
