 National Peanut Festival Poultry Show

General Rules and Regulations:

1.  This show is open to exhibitors of all ages and all breeds will be accepted for judging, including but not limited to Bantams, large chickens, and Ducks.

2.  We reserve the right to substitute or add judges, and the judge’s decisions are final.  All awards will be made by comparison of birds to the breed standard, and awards will be offered for all recognized breeds therein.

3.  ALL birds must have a certificate of Pullorum-free taken within the last 30 days, or have a National Poultry Improvement Plan numbered legband.  Any birds that appear sick will be removed from the show.

4.  No one will be allowed in the aisle during judging except the judge, clerk, and show officials, and no distraction of the birds during judging is permitted.

5.  Birds MUST BE the property of the exhibitor.

6.  Birds shall be entered as a Cock or Hen (a bird 1 year of age or older), or as a Cockerel or Pullet (a bird under 1 year of age).

7. NO ENTRIES WILL BE ACCEPTED THROUGH THE NATIONAL PEANUT FESTIVAL OFFICE!

8.  All entries must be received by Friday, November 2.

9.  Substitutions of entries may be made provided they are of the same breed and variety.

10. An entry fee of $2.00 per bird should be mailed with entry.  No entry fees will be refunded.

11. Exhibitors may coop-in Friday, Nov 9, from 3-6 p.m.  All birds must be cooped by 8:00 a.m. Saturday, for judging at 9:00 a.m.  Birds may not be cooped-out until awards are made.

(THERE MUST BE AT LEAST 10 ENTRIES IN A CLASS FOR PREMIUMS TO BE AWARDED.)

SPECIAL NOTE: A REPRESENTATIVE FROM THE ALABAMA DEPARTMENT OF AGRICULTURE WILL SWAB ALL BIRDS FOR AVIAN INFLUENZA ON-SITE, THE MORNING OF THE SHOW.

Junior Showmanship:  A junior show will be held for exhibitors 16 years of age and under.  Birds entered must be owned, cared for, and handled by the exhibitor.  No substitutions may be made for birds entered.  The junior exhibitor must be prepared to answer basic questions regarding the breed, variety, and care for his or her entries.  Junior exhibitors must be present during the judging to quality for awards.  Awards will be made on the basis of the condition of the birds and the showmanship of the exhibitor.  Showmanship will be judged based on personal appearance, knowledge, and handling ability.  Junior show entry fee is $2.00 per bird.

Ribbons will be awarded for best of Class and Breed

Directions:  The National Peanut Festival is located approximately 3 miles           south of Ross Clark traffic circle on Hwy. 231 south (toward Panama City) from Dothan, Alabama.  Drive past the main entrance, turn right through the Agriculture Gate, and inform the guard that you are a poultry exhibitor.

**Neither the National Peanut Festival Association nor the Department of Poultry Science at Auburn University will be responsible for loss or damage to any birds.
