Through enabling act 1122, passed during the regular session of the 1969 Legislature, the Agriculture Center Board is co-sponsor of this year's National Peanut Festival and Fair and pays a portion of the premiums, prizes, and awards listed in this program.

                 GENERAL RULES AND REGULATIONS

 1.    Entry fee of $7.00 per animal shown must accompany application.

 

 2.    Show will be Saturday, October 31, 2009.

 

 3.    All animals are shown at owner's risk.

 

 4.    Competition is open to bona-fide 4-H, FFA, or FCCLA members. Steer exhibitors must not have graduated from high school.  Heifer exhibitors may not be more than one year out of high school or have completed the GED.  Minimum age for 4-H is nine (9) years of age.

 

 5.    Feeder Steers will be divided into 6 equal weight groups.

   

 6.    No more than two entries per class per exhibitor allowed.

 

 7.    Calf must be owned by exhibitor to be eligible for showmanship.

 

 8.    Steers should be ones to be shown in Spring shows.

 

 9.    Entries for Junior Heifer and Feeder Steer Show must be in place by 7:00 p.m., Friday, October 30. ONCE TRAILERS ARE UNLOADED, THEY NEED TO BE MOVED IMMEDIATELY TO THE DESIGNATED AREA. IF LEFT UNATTENDED, THEY WILL BE TOWED.

No vehicles will be permitted on the midway in front of the livestock barns.

 

10.    Any additional bedding required for Jr Heifer and Feeder Steer Show will be the responsibility of the exhibitor.

 

11.    All people attending any National Peanut Festival show or sale other than exhibitors and owners must pay admission.

 

12.    Due to Health Department regulations, all exhibitors will be required to place manure and bedding in designated  locations.  Failure to obey this ruling can result in a 50% withholding of premium money.

 

13.    Breed shows shall consist of 2 or more exhibitors and 6 or more head, with registration papers.

                 GENERAL RULES AND REGULATIONS

 1.    Judging will be Tuesday, November 3, at 9:00 a.m.

 

 2.    Entries open to any breeder of registered Beef Cattle.

 

 3.    Entries must be received on an official entry form by October 5, 2009.  Forms are available at the National Peanut Festival, 5622 U.S. Hwy. 231 S, Dothan, Al 36301 or online at nationalpeanutfestival.com.

 

 4.    An entry fee of $10.00 per animal shown must accompany application.  The space is limited for this show and when the capacity of entries is received, no others will be accepted.  No refunds will be made if entry is accepted.

 

 5.    All entries for Tuesday show must be in place by 6 p.m. on Sun, November 1.  All cattle must remain at the show until 7:00 a.m., Wed, November 4, except exhibitors with proof of entry in another show or authority for removal to sale is given by Agriculture Chairman.  If rules are violated, 40% of prize money will be withheld. ONCE TRAILERS ARE UNLOADED, THEY MUST BE MOVED TO THE DESIGNATED AREA. IF LEFT UNATTENDED, THEY WILL BE TOWED.

 

 6.    All prize money will be mailed after the Festival.

 

 7.    Registration certificate will be required for each animal entered and must be presented upon entry.

 


 

 8.    To be eligible to compete for premiums, all animals must be broken and well groomed.

 

 9.    All animals will be exhibited at owner's risk.

 

10.    Feed and care of animals must be furnished by exhibitor.

 

11.    All cattle must be accompanied by a current health certificate, it must be presented upon entry, and must have passed both bangs and T.B. tests within 30 days, or have been vaccinated as approved by the State Veterinarian.

 

12.    No more than two entries may be made in one class by each exhibitor.

 

13.    Five ribbons will be awarded in each class.

 

14.    No nurse cows will be allowed inside the show arena.

 

15.    A minimum of 2 exhibitors and 6 head must be presented for breed show. In addition to breeds listed in the catalog, any breed that meets the above criteria will be allowed to show as a breed.  Classification will be according to age.

 

16.    Exhibitor with animals not qualifying under rule #15 will be paid $175.00 to exhibit, if space is available.

 

17.    Tie out time will be 9:00 p.m.  Area will be designated.

 

18.    HERDSMAN AWARD - A gift of $25.00 will be awarded to the exhibitor whose pens and cattle are kept up the best during the Festival week and a 2nd place prize will  be awarded to the runner-up.

C                    Heifers 24 months of age or older to be eligible must have produced a calf or be safe in calf as verified by a graduate  veterinarian.  If animal is open due to being in an embryo transfer program this fact must be verified by a written statement signed by a licensed embryo technician.

 

C                    All animals 14 months of age & over must have been     classed as Certified Purebred & branded "S" by an official of SGBI & must be registered, & all other animals must be by Certified Purebred Bulls out of Certified Classified cows & be registered.

 

C                    All animals must be individually identified by tattoo numerical firebrand, or freeze brand.

 

C                    Entries in each class will be placed 1,2,3, etc.  Animals are to be presented in descending order according to age.

 

C                    SGBI reserves the right to tooth animals without prior notice to the breeders in order to verify age of cattle.

 


 

C                    There must be at least five exhibitors and twenty-five head of cattle, or a minimum of fifty head of cattle to constitute a recognized Santa Gertrudis Show.

 

C                    All Senior Bull Classes (Late Junior Yearling Bull and over) must have either a nose ring or a nose clip for show purposes.

 

C                    Each animal exhibited must be exhibited with the correct age and shown in the class corresponding with their correct age.

 

NOTE:  All animals have to be classified by 14 months of age.
