Held annually in the fall, the 2025 National Peanut Festival will take place October 31 – November 9, 2025. The National Peanut Festival, the nation’s largest peanut festival, is held in Dothan, Alabama each year to honor local peanut farmers and celebrate the harvest season.
Located in the southeastern corner of Alabama, Dothan is affectionately known as the “Peanut Capital of the World.” It sits at the heart of peanut country—over half of all the peanuts grown in the United States come from within a 100-mile radius of Dothan.
A festival honoring the peanut was first inaugurated on a near-freezing Thursday, November 10, 1938. The original three-day event featured a pageant, a parade, a historical play, and a grand ball. The guest of honor was Dr. George Washington Carver, a humble and brilliant scientist from the Tuskegee Institute who had gained international recognition for developing more than 300 uses for the peanut.
