About the Junior Fair Board

The Junior Fair Board brings together 30 outstanding high school students from 14 schools across the Wiregrass region, serving as energetic ambassadors for the National Peanut Festival. These driven leaders support and represent the festival by volunteering, assisting with events, and helping keep festival traditions alive. Their community spirit helps shape a memorable experience for all attendees.

How to Join the Junior Fair Board

  • Applications open: January 16, 2026
  • Applications close: February 20, 2026

Eligible high school juniors and seniors (2026-2027 school year) with a 3.0 GPA or higher, who live in Alabama, Florida, or Georgia, are invited to apply. Community service is a key part of the experience—members volunteer at least 50 hours, including 30 hours during the National Peanut Festival (November 6–14, 2026).

Requirements & Responsibilities

  • Volunteer a minimum of 50 hours (20 prior/after, 30 during the festival)
  • Submit an application, two letters of recommendation, and a two-minute video
  • Serve as a liaison for your high school
  • Attend meetings and participate in special events
  • Work effectively as a team and communicate positively

Previous JFB members are required to submit an updated application. Selected applicants will be interviewed in March 2026.

Junior Fair Board applications will open on Friday, January 16, 2026. Applications close on February 20, 2026.

Junior Fair Board Requirements

Junior Fair Board 2026

The primary purpose of the Junior Fair Board is to promote, support, and represent the National Peanut Festival. This is accomplished by serving as public relations ambassadors for the 2025 Festival, volunteering a minimum of 50 hours of community service, of which 30 hours will be served during the National Peanut Festival, November 6- Nov 14, 2026. Interested high school students who meet the following requirements are eligible to apply.

Applications were due to the National Peanut Festival office (5622 US Hwy 231 South, Dothan 36301) no later than 12 NOON on Friday, February 21, 2025. Late applications will not be accepted.

The Junior Fair Board 2026 requirements are:

You must be a High School Junior or Senior for the 2026-2027 school year.

You must have a 3.0 grade average or greater.

You must live with a parent or guardian, unmarried and without children.

You must be a resident of Alabama/Florida/Georgia.

You must be able to volunteer for a minimum of 50 hours for this “Community Service.” 20 hours prior/after to the National Peanut Festival and 30 hours during the National Peanut Festival.

You must submit the application and two (2) letters of recommendation along with a two (2) minute video explaining why you would like to serve on the NPF Junior Fair Board. One from a teacher/principal/ or school counselor and one from a personal reference (non-family.)

If selected for an interview, the 2026 applicants for the Junior Fair Board will be interviewed in March, 2026. Applicants must work effectively in a team environment, look professional, possess good communication skills, and have a pleasing personality.

Previous JFB members must turn in an updated application.

The Junior Fair Board shall have the following duties and expectations:

a. Make recommendations to the National Peanut Festival Board of Directors regarding NPF operations. b. Assist in preparation for the Fair with specific duties to be scheduled.

c. Serve in the role of liaison with their represented High School.

d. Attend the regular meetings of the NPF JFB each year. Date TBD.

e. Communicate and actively participate with the JFB group.

f. Contribute volunteer service hours during pre-Fair, post-Fair, and the Fair itself as required.

g. Actively participate in special NPF-sponsored events at the Fairgrounds.

h. Interact positively with exhibitors, vendors, staff, volunteers, and NPF Board Members.

i. Members of the Junior Fair Board shall serve without compensation of any kind.

j. Maximum of 25 participants.
